HISTORY

Before returning to Ghana and becoming the country’s first president, former Pan-African leader, Kwame Nkrumah, spent 12 years in the diaspora. He spent 10 years in the United States, from 1935 to 1945, obtaining his Bachelor’s of Theology degree and two Master’s in Philosophy and Education. He also spent 2 years in London, from 1945 to 1947.

His book, “Africa Must Unite,” was published in 1963 and it has become a must-read for all Pan-Africanists across the world. Here’s a quote taken from his book:

“Never before in history has such a sweeping fervor for freedom expressed itself in great mass movements which are driving down the bastions of empire. This wind of change blowing through Africa, as I have said before, is no ordinary wind. It is a raging hurricane against which the old order cannot stand.”

BUSINESS

Considering that business is seen as an essential pillar to developing Africa, business hubs have an essential role to play in supporting entrepreneurs. Here’s a quote from business developer and innovator, Berry Numbi, on the necessity for business hubs to work in ecosystems across Africa.

“Our conversation started a couple of months ago in a bid to create a high impact collaborative project for the African innovation ecosystem. It is said widely that hubs hold the key to extending innovation and technology, especially across Africa.

Therefore, our project (The Den Africa – https://den.africa), inspired by the Ubuntu Spirit, is a software portal that offers an online program management platform for innovation hubs specifically designed by Africans for African incubators, accelerators and innovation hubs.”

POLITICS

Tidjane Thiam, Crédit Suisse’s former CEO speaking about the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA):

“Anything that is likely to get countries to cooperate, I see it in a positive light. I love history. It was World War II that convinced Europeans of the importance of the Franco-German alliance, which resulted in the European Coal and Steel Community, then the European Union. If Africa can unite without trauma of this scale, it won’t be bad. Let’s stop being so harsh on Africa.”

Bob Marley on knowing our history:

“If you know, if you know your history,

Then you would know where you’re coming from,

Then you wouldn’t have to ask me,

Who the hell I think I am.”
